What’s been happening at Prairie Sky Church? Let’s take this opportunity to briefly summarize what God has been doing among us. Let’s go all the way back to the beginning. Todd, Nicole, and our girls moved to Fishers in August of 2007. We bought a house, enrolled the girls at Hoosier Road Elementary School, and immediately set about meeting our neighbors, making friends, and getting involved in our new community. From the start, our approach has been, “love and serve the people.” For more details of our involvement in the community, check out the “Our Story” page.
In the process of simply meeting, befriending, and helping people, opportunities for sharing our story and our vision for a new faith community presented themselves. Out of those conversations, people with an interest in shaping that vision and expanding that story began to identify themselves.
Next, we sent out invitations to a book study and conversation around Brian McLaren’s A New Kind of Christian. A fluctuating group of 15 to 25 adults and children took advantage of two different meeting times and places for prayer, conversation, support, and . . . food!
After four weeks of A New Kind of Christian book study, we began a series of house church events on Sunday afternoons from 4 to 6ish pm, which continue to the present. We follow a format of welcome, music, Scripture, conversation, and prayer, followed by supper. Our children’s program follows a Sunday school curriculum and has been led by some great folks from our partner churches, including Lois Williams, Sarah Blossom, and Nancy Dickinson. You can find summaries of our house church events published as blog posts on our Website.
God has blessed us richly. Every week, God has added to our numbers so that we have grown to the point where we are looking for a larger space. We look forward to where God will lead us next.
If you’ve been thinking you might want to join us for one of our events, now is a great time. Check out the “What’s Happening” page and sign up for our weekly newsletter, Encouraging Words for a New Kind of Christian. (Just email us with “encouraging words” in the subject line.) Now is the time when you can have the greatest impact on the development of this emerging faith community. It is a rare opportunity to be a part of something at the beginning. Now is your chance. I encourage you to prayerfully consider trying us out. It will be well worth your time.

Excited to read about your adventures in redefining church. As a huge McLaren and Rob Bell fan, (and sister to Mary Lynn Moore who keeps me abreast of your ‘happenings’) I wish there was something like this in Fort Wayne.
Keep pressing in, asking the hard questions, and doing community.
peace.
